Join us on a fun and relaxing trip to Gramvousa Island and Balos Lagoon, two of the most beautiful places in Crete. We start the day with a drive across the island, heading west to the port of Kissamos. On the way, we stop in Skaleta near Rethymnon. You’ll have time for a coffee or a light breakfast before the adventure begins.
From Kissamos, we get on the boat and begin our trip to Gramvousa Island and Balos Lagoon. The boat ride takes about one hour and offers amazing views of the sea and coast. On the way, we pass a cave that may have been used as an old shipyard. We also see something very rare—part of the island is rising while another part is slowly sinking. In the west, the land has gone up by 6 to 9 meters!
Our first stop is Gramvousa Island, also known as the “pirates’ island.” This island is full of nature, with over 100 kinds of birds and more than 400 types of plants. You can climb to the top of the old Venetian fortress, built in 1579. The view from there is amazing. After exploring, you can swim in the clear sea or enjoy lunch on the boat.
Next, we visit Balos Lagoon, one of the most famous beaches in Greece. The water is crystal clear and the sand is soft and white. Many people say it looks like the Caribbean. You will have about three hours to swim, relax, take photos, and enjoy this beautiful place. It’s a peaceful and unforgettable experience.
